Building Masjids
At the heart of any Islamic community, a mosque can be found. Mosques are as old as Islam itself; they are the beating heart of our community and stand as a physical example of our faith. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) even helped in the construction of the first mosque in Medina, as it was part of his will to define a place of worship for Muslims everywhere.
Building a mosque is a wonderful act of Sadaqah Jariyah! The reward for building a mosque is unending, and as long as people are benefiting from the mosque you’ve helped build then you will continue to receive rewards from Allah (SWT) even in the Hereafter.
The benefits of building a mosque are plain as day if you think of all the rewards you will receive for every single prayer made in your mosque!

Sadaqah Jariyah is a type of charity that benefits people for a long time and earns the giver rewards even after death.
Sadaqah Jariyah is a term that refers to a continuous, flowing, and ongoing act of charity. Giving this type of charity is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives because the benefits can be reaped both during our lifetime and after we pass away.
Muslims donate Sadaqah Jariyah to help their needy brothers and sisters. Muslims who give charity are rewarded, but the rewards for donating Sadaqah Jariyah are greater because the donor will be rewarded as long as the act of charity benefits someone.
“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.”
(Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, narrated by Muslim)
What is the best Sadaqah Jariyah?
Any act of charity is greatly appreciated and pleases Allah (SWT), especially Sadaqah Jariyah which continues to give support to someone who needs it. Whilst this is true, there are some causes that may be considered more of a priority than others, including the act of donating to a water well or planting food-bearing crops. Hunger and thirst are deadly issues that still affect so many people around the world, but every donation towards easing the effects of hunger and thirst has the power to save a life immediately.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever builds a mosque, desiring thereby Allah’s pleasure, Allah builds for him the like of it in paradise.” [Bukhari]
Sadaqah is not the same as Sadaqah Jariyah, even though they have the same name. People who do Sadaqah do things like buy a meal for a homeless person that will last one day. Sadaqah Jariyah is giving long-term charity, like giving a water well to a community that doesn’t have clean water. This will help them for months and years to come.
Give Sadaqah Jariyah
You may give Sadaqah Jariyah by carrying out an act yourself, or you may do it by making a charitable donation to our Sponsor an Orphan appeal which provides for an orphan in the long term.
“Surely the men who give sadaqah and the women who give sadaqah and have advanced a good loan to Allah (SWT); for them, it will be multiplied and for them, there is a noble reward.” - The Holy Qur’an (57:18)
Giving towards a masjid is a truly special Sadaqah Jariyah because Allah loves masjids above other places!
