When to Give Sadaqah

Sadaqah can be offered at any time and for any reason. Sadaqah can be given to commemorate or bring blessings to special occasions such as weddings, births, or other significant anniversaries. Muslims give Sadaqah as a sign of gratitude to Allah on these occasions (SWT). Sadaqah, on the other hand, can be given in times of sadness, illness, and bereavement, as well as on behalf of others, living or dead. What matters when giving Sadaqah is sincerity and seeking Allah’s pleasure, regardless of your motivation (SWT). Remember that giving Sadaqah does not deplete your assets. So give generously and fearlessly!

Zakat Policy

Zakat is the amount of money that every adult, mentally stable, free, and financially able Muslim, male and female, has to give to support specific categories of people.

The category of people is defined in surah at-Taubah (9) verse 60: “The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarers; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is knower, Wise.” (The Holy Qur’an 9:60).

Frequently Asked Questions About Zakat

Confused about donating? Take a look at our frequently asked questions below.

Zakat is an obligatory form of charity in Islam, constituting one of the Five Pillars. It involves giving a fixed portion of one’s wealth to those in need, helping to purify wealth and distribute resources more fairly.

Zakat can be given to eight categories of beneficiaries, including the poor, the needy, Zakat collectors, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, captives, debtors, in the cause of Allah, and wayfarers.

Zakat is typically 2.5% of a Muslim’s total savings and wealth above the Nisab threshold, which is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before they are obligated to pay Zakat.

The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must have before they are liable to pay Zakat. It is equivalent to the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver.

Zakat is due once a lunar year (Hijri year) has passed on the wealth that reaches or exceeds the Nisab threshold. Many Muslims choose to pay Zakat during Ramadan for the added spiritual benefits.

Zakat is applicable to cash, savings, gold, silver, investments, business goods, rental income, and agricultural produce. Personal items like clothing, household furniture, and cars are generally exempt.

Paying Zakat purifies wealth, fosters social equality, helps reduce poverty, and fulfills a critical religious duty. It also brings spiritual benefits, such as gaining Allah’s blessings and protection from miserliness.

While both Zakat and Sadaqah are forms of charity, Zakat is obligatory with specific rules and recipients, and Sadaqah is voluntary and can be given at any time and amount. Zakat aims to redistribute wealth, whereas Sadaqah encourages regular charitable acts.

The Pillar of Charity in Islam

Our Zakat distributions extend across critical regions, including Palestine, Syrian Refugees, Rohingya Refugees, Uganda, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Africa, and Lebanon. Embrace the spirit of Ramadan and contribute today to make a significant difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters facing hardship.

Global Helping Hands uses Zakat to help some of the world’s poorest and most destitute communities. Your donations bring joy to these people and bring hope that one day they will be able to give rather than receive zakat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Confused about donating? Take a look at our frequently asked questions below.

Your donation will directly fund the construction and development of the masjid, which will serve as a space for daily prayers, Quran classes, and community activities. Each donation helps bring this vital project to life and strengthens the community it serves.

Donors who contribute the full amount needed to build the masjid will receive personalised video updates, including progress within 3-4 months and a final report upon completion. While smaller donations are appreciated, they do not include personalised updates.

Yes, but only donors who fully fund the entire masjid can have a name or multiple names engraved on a plaque within the masjid. This is a special way to commemorate your generous contribution to this important cause.

There is no minimum donation, and every contribution makes a difference. However, only those who donate the full amount required to fund the masjid will receive personalised updates and the opportunity to add a name to the masjid plaque.

Small donations help us reach the full amount needed to build a masjid. Once reached, Global Helping Hands will build the masjid under the name “Fael Khair,” symbolising contributions from many donors like you.

Yes! You can create a fundraising page on our website and invite friends and family to contribute. Visit Start Fundraising to get started.

“Fael Khair” means “doer of good” and is the name given to masjids built through collective donations, representing the kindness and unity of all contributors.

While only full donors have names engraved, “Fael Khair” masjids represent the combined efforts of many, including your generous contribution.

Is building a masjid considered Sadaqah Jariyah?

Yes, building a masjid is considered Sadaqah Jariyah because it provides ongoing benefits to the community. Every prayer, Quran class, and act of worship performed within the masjid continues to bring rewards to the donor, even after they have passed away. This lasting impact makes it one of the most rewarding forms of charity in Islam.

Sadaqah Jariyah, often referred to as “continuous charity,” is an act of giving that provides ongoing benefits to others and rewards to the donor. Unlike regular Sadaqah, which is a one-time act of charity, Sadaqah Jariyah continues to benefit others and generates spiritual rewards for the giver for as long as the charity continues to be of service.

Description

Description

In the border town of Arsal, Lebanon, situated in the hills above the Bekaa Valley, around 60,000 Syrian refugees live in scattered, mostly makeshift tented settlements amidst a local Lebanese population of 35,000. A recent survey revealed that approximately 230 children, aged between 5 and 12, are being cared for by relatives other than their parents, or by unrelated guardians.

Many of these children endure extremely challenging conditions. Issues such as lack of school attendance, inadequate supervision, and child labour are widespread. This project focuses on supporting children in such difficult circumstances, including those who are victims of more severe forms of abuse.

Evaluate and identify the specific needs of these vulnerable children, with a focus on determining which children are in the greatest need of rehabilitation.

Foster social development by promoting interpersonal relationships through play, sports, literacy initiatives, and building self-esteem, alongside teaching essential social and life skills to help them become responsible community members.

Tackle social issues such as child exploitation, drug abuse, and violence through targeted interventions.

Encourage wider action by sharing our experiences and promoting collaboration with other organisations to address the broader challenges facing the refugee community.

Education

Dar Al-Amal is currently teaching 231 students every week (aged 6-14 years)

  • 96 orphans (attend over 4 days)
  • 125 Quran students (attend over 5 days)
  • 10 disability students

The centre provides teaching in secular studies (English/ IT/ maths) aswell as arabic language and Quran studies. Students are also taught the importance of hygiene and benefit from daily/ weekly facilities such as hot meals, hair cutting, clean clothes and washing facilities to ensure they are in a good state to learn.

The Respite Centre will provide a safe, fully supervised environment where children can access essential services such as:

  • Educational facilities to promote learning and personal development.
  • Psychological and medical care to address trauma and physical health needs.
  • Social interaction, play, and sports activities to enhance well-being and community integration.
  • Hygiene services, including bathing and clothes-washing facilities.
  • Nutritious lunches to ensure the children receive at least one healthy meal per day.
  • Transport services to safely bring children to and from the centre.

Our Dedicated Team

The centre will be staffed by three teachers and a management team, supported by specialists as needed. We are committed to employing individuals from within the refugee community, utilising their skills and providing much-needed employment opportunities back to the community.

Facilities and Premises

We have identified suitable premises for the Respite Centre, which will be rented on an ongoing basis to ensure a stable and secure environment for the children.

Description

Description

Education is a fundamental right for every child, but many orphans are deprived of this opportunity due to poverty, conflict, and lack of resources. Global Helping Hands is committed to providing education for orphans, giving them the chance to break the cycle of poverty and lead dignified lives. Your sadaqah and zakat can help educate these vulnerable children and pave the way for a brighter future, while earning immense reward from Allah (SWT).

Why Education for Orphans Matters

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together (Sahih Bukhari). Education is not just a path to knowledge; it is a lifeline for orphans, offering them hope, stability, and the tools they need to succeed in life. By supporting education, you are investing in the future leaders of the Ummah and fulfilling an important Islamic obligation.

Why Your Support is Critical

By providing education for orphans, you are giving them the opportunity to escape poverty and build a better future. Your sadaqah and zakat will not only uplift their lives but also serve as an ongoing reward for you, as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him” (Sahih Muslim).

Donate today to educate orphans and make a lasting impact on their lives and yours. May Allah (SWT) reward your generosity and grant barakah in your wealth and efforts.
