Qurbani FAQs
What is Qurbani (Udhiyah)?
Qurbani (Udhiyah) is the sacrifice offered during the days of Eid al-Adha, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion to Allah. The meat is distributed to families in need.
Is Qurbani compulsory?
Qurbani is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah Mu’akkadah) — strongly encouraged for every Muslim who can afford it, rather than an obligation, following the position of the major scholars.
When is Qurbani performed?
During the days of Eid al-Adha: the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah.
What are the rules of Qurbani?
The animal must be healthy, free from defects and of the required minimum age. A sheep or goat counts as one share; a cow or camel can be shared by up to seven people.
How much is Qurbani?
The cost varies by country and animal. See the current options on our Qurbani donation page and give in the country of your choice.
Can I give Qurbani on behalf of someone who has passed away?
Giving Qurbani on behalf of a deceased loved one is widely regarded as a source of ongoing reward. We recommend confirming the details with a scholar you trust.
How is the Qurbani meat distributed?
GHH performs your Qurbani in the country you choose and distributes fresh meat, on your behalf, to the families most in need.
Does one Qurbani cover a whole household?
Following the Sunnah of the Prophet, a single sheep or goat may be offered on behalf of a man and the members of his household.
