Celebrate your new baby with an Aqiqah in Uganda or Chad: £70 for a girl or £140 for a boy. Our team carries out the sacrifice on your behalf, gives the meat to families in need, and sends you photos and a video with your child's name within 7 days.

What your Aqiqah includes

Aqiqah Animals Amount
Girl 1 sheep or goat £70
Boy 2 sheep or goats £140
Sadaqah sacrifice 1 animal £70

The animals meet the same conditions of age and health as the Qurbani sacrifice. The meat is given to families in need, so your thanks for your child also feeds others.

Why two for a boy and one for a girl?

The Prophet ﷺ said: "For a boy, two sheep that are equal, and for a girl, one sheep." (Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi, from Umm Kurz al-Ka'biyyah). Aqiqah is a confirmed Sunnah (sunnah mu'akkadah), not an obligation. If a family can only afford one animal for a boy, scholars have said this is acceptable. Read more in our Aqiqah guide.

When should the Aqiqah be done?

The Sunnah is the seventh day after birth, when the baby is also named and the head is shaved. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Every child is held in pledge for his Aqiqah, which is sacrificed for him on the seventh day, and he is named and his head is shaved." (Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah). If the seventh day has passed, the Aqiqah can still be done later.

Difference between Aqiqah for a boy and a girl?

Aqiqah for a boy and a girl? Traditionally, for a boy, two animals are sacrificed, whereas, for a girl, one animal is sacrificed. This practice is based on the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

What is Aqiqah?

As part of the Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah, the Aqiqah is performed at the birth of a child (peace be upon him). It entails the slaughter of animals such as goats and sheep. It usually happens on the seventh day after a baby is born. However, there’s nothing stopping you from doing it later.

The sacrifice is then divided among the members of the family who are performing it. It is frequently distributed to the poor and needy.

Aisha (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Slaughter two comparable sheep for a male newborn and one sheep for a female.” [Tirmidhi]

Why is Aqiqah important?

We have a responsibility at Global Helping Hands to be there for those who most need our help.

Millions of people struggle with poverty on a daily basis, with many going days or months without adequate food. Your gift could feed a family and provide them with the essential nutrients they require. They'd also be able to take part in the celebration of new life. This beloved Sunnah's reward benefits a large number of people.

What is the cost of Aqiqah?

An Aqiqah for a boy is £140 (two sheep or goats) and for a girl £70 (one sheep or goat). This covers the animals, the sacrifice and giving the meat to families in need.

Who benefits from the Aqiqah meat?

The meat from the Aqiqah is distributed to those in need, including underprivileged families and communities. This act of charity helps spread the joy of a newborn’s arrival to those less fortunate.

When should Aqiqah be performed?

Aqiqah is ideally performed on the 7th day after the birth of the child. However, if it cannot be done on that day, it can be performed at a later date.

How can I donate an Aqiqah?

You can easily donate an Aqiqah through our program by choosing to sponsor the sacrifice for a boy or a girl. Our team will handle the process of purchasing, slaughtering, and distributing the meat on your behalf.

Is it obligatory to perform Aqiqah?

Aqiqah is not obligatory but is a highly recommended Sunnah. It brings blessings to the child and family and allows for charitable giving to the community.
