Penda is growing up in a family that has experienced the loss of a parent and now faces ongoing financial challenges. Penda’s mother, Mariama, has been living in a rented house with her children since the death of her husband. As the sole breadwinner of the family, she struggles to support them with the little she earns from selling ice blocks. Unfortunately, her small income is not enough to sustain the family, and paying her children’s school fees has become extremely difficult for her.
