Omar is growing up in a family that has experienced the loss of a parent and now faces ongoing financial challenges. Omar Darboe lives with his mother in a small rented house, which consists of just a single room and a parlour. Despite the modest space, his mother works hard to make it a home. Her only source of income comes from gardening u2014 she grows tomatoes and onions in a small plot behind their house, and whatever she harvests, she resells in the neighbourhood to raise a little money for their survival. Life is not easy. Every penny counts, and the uncertainty of each day is a constant concern. She constantly worries about how she will pay for her children’s education, how she will afford the monthly house rent, and most of all, how she can give Omar a stable future. She eams of a future where Omar does not have to struggle the way she has u2014 a future where his education opens doors she never could. Still, she wakes up every morning with hope, tending to her garden, believing that her small efforts today will lead to a better tomorrow for her son.
